Amir Methvin

Psychotherapy intern

Amir is a psychotherapy intern at BeWELL Psychotherapy and Wellness. Her therapy approach focuses on supporting you as you find your way home to yourself. Her work honors the deep connection between mind, body, and spirit, creating a safe and brave space for clients to explore their emotions and build resilience. Amir acknowledges the profound vulnerability in embarking on a journey of self-discovery, and is honoured to be chosen as the therapist to accompany you as you search for growth, meaning, and connection to yourself and the world around you.

Drawing from her background as a sex educator, Amir is grounded in somatic practices, bringing a creative, compassionate, and empathetic lens to her therapeutic work with individuals and couples – emphasizing the importance of knowing your body, prioritizing pleasure and self-care, and trusting your intuition.

Clients can expect to experience Amir’s transparent, honest, grounded, and culturally responsive approach. Amir recognizes that real-world factors – from personal relationships to social systems – can impact your ability to feel well, and she addresses these openly in therapy.

She draws from a range of evidence-based modalities, including mindfulness, somatic therapy, trauma-informed care, strength based approaches and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT).

With experience working with clients from all walks of life, she specializes in working with LGBTQIA+ individuals, young adults, women of colour, and survivors of sexual violence.

Originally from Cape Town, South Africa, Amir moved to New York City two years ago. She received a BA in Psychology and Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies from Temple University and is in her last year of completing her dual graduate degrees in Public Health and Social Work from Columbia University’s School of Social Work and Mailman School of Public Health. Amir looks forward to connecting further and walking alongside you on your journey to holistic well-being.
